Understanding the role
In today’s workplaces we’re seeing increasing numbers of champions – people asked to support their colleagues with things such as diversity and inclusion, ethics, wellbeing, employee engagement and so on.
Particularly in large organisations, employees can sometimes feel unsure as to where to go for advice or help or worry that heading straight to an HR team will escalate an issue that doesn’t necessarily need at this stage to be escalated. Speaking with a colleague about an issue can often feel more comfortable. This is where champions come in.
What organisations don’t want though is a group of people who want to support by volunteering for a champion role, but who are unclear about boundaries, the limits of their role and what is expected of them.
